Common Questions about Chafing

  • 1.What is chafing?
    • Chafing is when two parts of the body rub together causing friction between the skin. This can often feel like a burning, stinging sensation. The skin can feel sore and can even cause some grazing and small cuts to the affected area. Chafing can occur anywhere, however, it is most common between the inner thighs, upper arms, bum and breasts.

  • 2.Where does chafing occur?
    • Chafing can occur anywhere on the body where two areas rub together. However, it is most common between the inner thighs, upper arms, bum and breasts.

  • 3.How can I prevent chafing?
    • You can prevent chafing by applying the BeYou Anti-Chafing cream. Our Anti-Chafing Cream leaves a silky smooth barrier over the skin. The emulsion layer created by the Olive Oil and Coconut Oil repels moisture such as sweat which is the primary cause of chafing. The infused Colloidal Silver particles have antimicrobial properties meaning they can fight any nasties on the skin while you’re moving.

  • 4.How can I treat chafing?
    • The BeYou Anti-Chafing can also be used to treat chafed skin. The emulsion created by the Olive Oil and Coconut Oil moisturises the skin. Chafing occurs when two areas of the body rub together. Often when chafing occurs the body begins to sweat which evaporates on the skin producing salt crystals. The salt crystals then grind against the skin causing the uncomfortable burning sensation we all know. The moisturising oil blend soothes the sore skin while the Colloidal Silver particles help the skin heal the small cuts and grazes caused by chafing. You can check out this guide to find out how the Anti-Chafing Cream works.

  • 5.Can I use talc for chafing?
    • We recommend not using talc or baby powder for chafing. There have been several studies on the effects of talcum powder after using it for feminine hygiene which have shown that there may be a link between talc and ovarian cancer. Erm, but how?! Although talcum powder is supposed to be used externally, when used around the vulva it can travel inside the vagina and reach a woman’s womb and ovaries. Chafing often occurs between the upper, inner thighs therefore we advise not to use talc in that area because it is so close to the perineal area.

Also, the good bacteria that your vagina uses to balance your pH lives within the fluids that your vagina produces. Talc or baby powder is an astringent powder meaning it dries out anything it comes into contact with, including your vagina. When talc comes into contact with these fluids it dries them out stopping your vagina from cleaning itself properly. Taking away the good bacteria can cause infections such as thrush which is inconvenient at the best of times.

  • 6.Is chafing common?
    • Chafing is incredibly common and can happen for a variety of reasons. Chafing happens to people of all ages and genders so don’t feel embarrassed about your thighs rubbing together! It can happen while you’re walking down the street, while you’re running, cycling even when you have a pad on. We created the BeYou Anti-Chafing Cream because chafing is NORMAL and it happens to all of us. Our Anti-Chafing Cream can be used anytime, anywhere no matter if you’re exercising, on holiday or just need to use it during your daily routine.

  • 7.What causes chafing?
    • Chafing occurs when the water from your sweat evaporates, leaving behind salt crystals on the skin. As you keep moving, the salt crystals grind against the skin. Yes, GRIND! This creates even more friction and leaves the skin irritated and raw. Therefore, when you’re doing repetitive exercises like HIIT, running or dancing, the rubbing motion encourages the grinding friction.
