What Is CBD?
Let’s start with the basics
As you may have guessed, the word cannabidiol does, in fact, come from Cannabis, a family of plants known primarily for a wide variety of uses. Cannabis (aka Hemp) is a broad classification however and there are in fact two primary species: Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica. Naturally occurring within Cannabis plants are Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is associated with the natural ‘high’ and hemp extracts with a level of THC above 1mg cannot be sold legally. Cannabis plant extracts with a very low level of THC are permitted to be sold as food/food supplements and cosmetic ingredients. We source our CBD from Cannabis sativa, with a low level of THC, as the extraction process allows us to reduce further these THC levels to a very low level.
So what is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a substance naturally occurring in Hemp or Cannabis sativa plant parts (Seeds, leaves and flower buds). CBD is just one of over 100 cannabinoids identified in the hemp plant. Our CBD products will not cause the psychoactive effect normally associated with Cannabis products!
When processing the hemp plant parts, we are able to retain other important hemp nutrients, that can contribute to your well-being. When processing the hemp plant parts, we are able to retain other important hemp nutrients, that can contribute to your well-being.
Concerns about CBD?
With all the buzz surrounding cannabidiol, it’s no wonder that the potential of introducing the ingredient to the body can be both exciting and worrying to CBD newcomers but if this sounds familiar, you needn’t be concerned.
Alongside having no psychotropic properties, cannabidiol has been classified by the World Health Organization as safe, well tolerated and ‘the evidence from well controlled human experimental research indicates that CBD is not associated with abuse potential’.
